we have been casually looking at homes around the area. we have actually walked through a couple. homes here are quite expensive and supposedly the market is dropping. but as i walk through homes and look at them on-line i have to ask myself if i really want to mop that much kitchen floor....:0)
so how do you find the perfect home? as i have walked through some i know that i have got to like the kitchen, right? do you just feel like it is the right place? do you just picture yourself in it? i don't know...we are new at this thing. there was one home that was so great. the little girls room was darling. it was a light lavender on the top 2/3. and on the botton 1/3 is was a light green with a real white picket fence around the room. on top of the green paint...it was really cute! and under the stairs there was a play room but it wasn't just any old play room...it was beautifully painted as a jungle with every animal you could imagine...it was fun to dream about that one for a little bit!
any suggestions on house hunting? please advise!

When we were looking, I had to picture myself in each house. Until we got to our current house, I couldn't do it. When I walked into this one, I just felt comfortable. It's also just the right size. It's hard enough now that we've moved in to have to wait to buy some new furniture and get rid of all the hand me down stuff, but we're being patient. If we had gotten something bigger, it would have been even more tempting to fill it with all sorts of stuff.
The kitchen had to be a good size for me. I spend so much time in it that I had to like it. And watch for lots of counter space.
We made detailed lists in each house that we went to of what would need to be fixed, repainted, replaced, etc. As we made our decision, we guestimated how much it would cost to get each house to the level that we would want it. Then we added it to the price of the house. If you don't keep this in mind while you're shopping, you may end up spending way more on fixing than you thought you would. Besides any house will need some money sunk into it.
Now we just need to get our lawn in!

As long as the house has a garage (so that I don't have to clean and scrape my car in the winter) that is good enough for me!
well first you spend countless hours online looking and then you narrow it down to maybe ten or so. then you go look at them and you'll get very excited when you find one you like. at least that's how it worked for us (or me rather since josh didn't come along on that trip). it's funny how big i thought the house was and how now i'm already finding we need more storage space. still, it was a great fit for our family the first time around.
dear joni, sorry it took me so long to reply. computer was on the fritz. For house shopping, once you find a house you like, go to zillow.com and see what they estimate the value as. When you are ready to put in an offer, ask $10,000 less than that assessed value. For every house sale that may not work out, there will be ten more to replace it. The market is totally in your favor and dropping. You go gettem girl!
